Finding those toys that you remember growing up with may be more difficult that you think. Taking a trip into your local Wal-Mart store will help you find some of your basic toys, such as colorful balls, and stacking rings. But you will have to look further for those other toys that you remember such as the Jack in the Box and the telephone that has eyes and a string to pull around the house.
Looking for Toys on the Internet
You may be able to find those toys that you are searching for with a simple internet search. In the search bar, type the name of the toy that you are having difficulty finding in the stores. This should bring up a list of results that will lead you to a variety of stores that still sell these older toys. Some popular name stores such as Target may have these toys for sale via the internet instead of on the store shelves.
You may also find stores that sell online only, that have the older toys that you are looking for. One example of this type of store is Back to Basics. This store sells a lot of the older toys and proudly state on the website that “they do make them like they used to”. You will be able to find many of the old games and toys that you grew up with at this site.
Look for Toys at Yard Sales
Many people will sell their older children’s toys in a yard sale. Their children have grown up, moved out, and the parents are ready to clean out a little. Whether the children have simply outgrown the toys, or they are trying to clean out the basement, many great treasured toys can be found as you walk through neighborhoods holding garage sales. Take the time to stop and look through the boxes of toys whenever you see baby items or other kids items displayed. They may have some small trinket that you have been looking for, or that you have forgotten about.
Look for Toys at Antique Shops
Many of the older toys can also be found at Antique shops. Although you need to watch carefully for any broken pieces, rust or other damage, you may be able to find some great toys in these shops. The bargains may not be as good as if you went shopping in yard sales, but you may be able to find the toys you are looking for here, if you have tried everything else.
Do not give up if you would rather your children play with some of the older toys that require creativity and imagination. There are still older toys available, some that are brand new, and others that are gently used. Clean these used toys well, and enjoy watching your children play with the toys you grew up with.
