Coming up with creative bulletin board ideas that promote learning at the same time will not only impress the other teachers in your school, but will help your students be more engaged in the learning process. Use ideas that revolve around a winter theme during the coldest months of the year to illustrate your lessons.
Let it Snow Bulletin Board
Cut out and laminate twenty to thirty snowflakes. Using a whiteboard marker, you can then use these snowflakes to illustrate any lesson you are currently teaching. For example, to encourage students to use more adjectives in their writing, have students come up with excellent adjectives to put on the snowflakes and display for future reference. By writing with whiteboard marker you can then erase the snowflakes and reuse them for another lesson. If you use a regular marker by accident, color over the markings with white board marker and you will be able to erase.
Teaching Writing with Snowmen
Teach students the parts of a story through the use of a snowman. The base of the snowman is the foundation that keeps the rest of the body on top. Likewise, a story needs a strong foundation including setting and character development. The middle of the snowman is the body and it holds the arms out. Likewise, a story needs to have body. The action moves the story along from start to finish, and holds up the characters.
The head of the snowman is where the details happen. A carrot nose adds a touch of color, a scarf connects the head to the body and stones form the eyes and mouth. Likewise, a story needs to have details. These details help to tie everything together, allow the action in the body of the story to make sense and add color and excitement for the reader.

Ski Slope Behavior Plan
Mix up your classroom behavior plan with a ski slope display in your room. The display should include a snow covered mountain, trees, and a ski lift. Each student should decorate a skier and write his or her name on the front. Each student must start at the base of the ski slope. They earn their way up the slope by obeying class rules. When they arrive at the top, they are able to begin the descent, and earn little prizes such as computer time or a homework pass as they go downhill. Specials' teachers can modify this behavior plan by having one skier per class.

Use winter themed ideas to create educational displays in your classroom. Have your students help decorate and create each display to minimize the extra work and reinforce whatever lesson the display is designed around. You can use winter themes for a behavior plan as well.
